Who Are You? 14 Self-Knowledge Questions to Ask Yourself

You hear it all the time, we are our own worst enemies, and the same goes for self-awareness. Do you have a tough time answering who are you? We do not give ourselves the opportunity to get to know ourself, simply because life is all around us. We certainly do not see ourselves the way others do. Truly knowing yourself can be one among the most difficult challenges you’ll ever face. But it’s a challenge worth pursuing.

who are you

Knowing yourself better has so many benefits. You become more effective at managing yourself and your daily life.

Ask yourself these questions:

who are you
  1.  What activities do I partake in to distract myself from my difficulties in my life? We all have our ways of avoiding the items that we don’t want to try and do. You might eat, shop, watch TV, surf the web , call an acquaintance, clean the house, read a book, or opt for a walk. The ability to conceptualize how you sidetrack yourself can allow you to notice when you are avoiding what needs to be done.
  2. What would I tell my younger self? Everyone would love to have a genie bottle or a time out button in their lives. We all ponder the ‘what ifs’ if we have a re-do. What would you tell your younger self?
  3. What is the most ideal time of day for you to be most productive and can focus easier? Most people experience the most optimal ability to focus either early within the day or late within the day. When do you find it easiest to focus? What are some ways you can utilize this information into your life?
  4. When are you the most creative during your day? When are you best at creating? How can you use that information?
  5. What are 10 words that accurately describe you? Be honest with yourself. Take a moment and speak your truth, not an idealized version of who you would like to be. What are the words that actually describe you?
  6. List 10 words that would accurately describe yourself? Now, you’ll be able to list the ten words you wish were accurate about you.
  7. What am I currently tolerating in my life? Make an inventory of the items that you’re currently tolerating. Is it your boss? partner? An unreliable car? Twenty extra pounds? Debt? What activities would you like to eliminate from your life?
  8. What is YOUR meaning of life? Are you living your life accordingly?
  9. Tough question, but if you had to separate yourself from one person in your daily life, who may that person be and why? List the one person you would separate from your life if you have to choose just one. Why that person? Why are they still part of your life? Is this relationship that I have with this person making a better person? Am I a positive influence in this person’s life and is this relationship making us better as a group?
  10. If you had to create your most ideal day, what would this look like? It’s easier to possess a decent day if you recognize what a good day feels like. Describe your perfect day. Now, try to describe an even better day.
  11. Whom do I most respect in my life? Why do you respect this person? Do you have the same aspirations and goals in your lives? How would your life change if you were more like this person, both positively and negatively?
  12. If all emotions were eliminate from your life, what would you want to do? Fear limits us all. In what ways is fear limiting you? Most people believe they have successfully conquered their fears, when actually they’ve found ways to avoid them. A life built around the desire to avoid your fears may be a life that’s limited.
  13. What is my greatest limitation? No one is perfect. Weaknesses are part of life. What is your greatest limitation and how is it impacting your life? How can you work around it? Be truthful with yourself here and self-reflect appropriately.
  14. What is my greatest strength? What is the most advantageous way to utilize my strengths? Am I utilizing my strengths to my greatest capacities in my life? Knowing yourself makes you powerful.

If you recognize your strengths, weaknesses, and the way to manage yourself effectively, you become a stronger person. You are the only one in control of your path. No other person controls your destiny. Knowing yourself is the path to freedom.
