What type of therapies are there for my child?
cognitive behavioral therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps improve a child's moods, anxiety, and behavior by examining confused or distorted patterns of thinking. CBT therapists teach children that thoughts cause feelings and moods which can influence behavior. During CBT, a child learns to identify harmful thought patterns. The therapist then helps the child replace this thinking with thoughts that result in more appropriate feelings and behaviors.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy combines mindfulness with variouz skills to help children learn how to regulate their emotions. A child’s emotional state is complex and can be overwhelming. When they learn to regulate it, they immediately feel better. This allows for additional changes and growth over time. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy helps to educate children on how to work with, and change, their feelings and behavior.
Family Therapy
Family therapy focuses on helping the family be able to function in more positive and constructive ways by evaluating patterns of communication and giving support and education. Family Therapy sessions can include the child or adolescent with the parents, siblings and grandparents.
Supportive Therapy
Supportive Therapy gives children and teens support in their lives to cope with stress, identify helpful and unhelpful behaviors, and improve self-esteem.
